Roundtown Classic

Picture
The Roundtown Classic is an annual fundraising event for the Circleville High School Alumni Association. Established in 2005, this organization promotes activities of the Circleville City Schools including scholarships. CHS Alumni is a not-for-profit 501 C3 organization. The 2025 Race will be on Saturday, July 19 at 8AM. Packet pick-up & in person registration will be available at Circleville High School Friday, July 18th from 4pm-7pm and Saturday, July 19th before the race from 6:30am-7:30am.

Each year, on the 3rd Saturday in July, your Circleville High School Alumni Association sponsors The Roundtown Classic - a 5 mile and 5K run/walk which takes place on the Circleville City School Campus. This is our largest fundraiser of the year. It provides the funds to award $1000 scholarships to selected graduating family members of Circleville High School Alumni. The alumni association also funds other school related projects, activities, and needs.

The 2025 Roundtown Classic is celebrating our founder Ace Elsea!
Please join us for a 5 Mile or 5K run or walk starting at 8 a.m. July 19th at Circleville High School. At the start of the race, the Circleville High School Alumni Association will pay tribute to Ace who designed the Roundtown Classic. Elsea Family members will be running, walking and participating in this event.
Always the third Saturday in July, the race started in 2009 at Mary Virginia Crites Hannan Park. Ace made several improvements to the park through the years. Under his direction, the Information Station was installed. He covered a ditch for a smooth transition from the wooded area back to the path and annually cleared the wooded pathway for runners.
The race moved to its current home at the Circleville Schools in 2022. It now runs around the campus and the Roundtown Trail. This year, the race will be under the watchful eyes of the Bronze Tiger installed by CHS Alumni in the fall of 2024. Ace also watched his race progress to its Alumni Home

"Race, Focus, & Finish": The Story Behind the Race

Picture
“Focus & Finish” was CHS alum Ralph Starkey’s motto when speaking to youth and civic groups throughout his career. And that was his passion in his pursuit to make the Mary Virginia Crites Hannan Park the very best it could be for the citizens of Circleville and Pickaway County. If you have not visited the park you surely should make that a must stop. You will be impressed by all the facilities that provide accessibility to all youth and adults, physically challenged or not. The playground, the splash pad, the shelter houses, the Starkey Pavilion, the 1.1 mile paved track, the ½ mile gravel trail through the woods, the butterfly garden, the wetlands observation deck, a water fountain that includes a pet fountain, and, most recently the dog park where dogs of all sizes can play were all placed in the park with the requirement that they be accessible to all.

The Information Station was completed and dedicated in the Spring of 2014.  There was no central place within the park where folks could go to see what events will be taking place there, or to see the results of events such as The Roundtown Classic or other races. The Information Station, located near the butterfly garden, was financed by several groups, organizations, and individuals.
