As the Spring 09 CHS Alumni Newsletter suggests, running is a popular sport at the school that carries into college and beyond.

The following list are the Top 25 boy and girl runners in both high school and middle school.

Coach Jason Wells explains: “The records start in 1982 when the official distance for HS cross country changed to 5K (3.1 miles); the middle school records cover the entire history of MS cross country, which began in 1989.

The newsletter talks of Julie Richards, freshman, who was placed on the “Top 25” list this year. When her uncle Steve Richards ’72 won the state in 1971, Wells explains that “the distance was 2 miles, which explains why he isn’t listed on the board. It changed sometime in the late 70's to 2.5 miles and then to 3.1 in 1982.”

Abbey Reeser 02 was state champion in 2000.
